Excitement for OLED MacBook Pro, but Bad News for MacBook Air Fans

Apple has often taken its time to introduce new tech in its devices, but when it does, it’s typically worth the wait. A prime example is the 2024 M4 iPad Pro, which showcased a stunning OLED display, outperforming rival tablets. Now, many Apple fans are hoping for a similar OLED leap for the MacBook lineup—especially the MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, there’s both good and bad news, depending on whether you’re a MacBook Pro or Air enthusiast.

MacBook Pro Fans: Get Ready for an OLED Upgrade! 🌟

A recent report from The Elec reveals that Apple is working on incorporating OLED technology into future MacBook Pro models. This hybrid OLED panel, which debuted in the iPad Pro, promises impressive benefits for MacBook Pro users: enhanced brightness, contrast, and power efficiency compared to the current mini-LED display. If the iPad Pro’s OLED display is anything to go by, the improvements here could be significant.

But there’s more: Apple’s OLED tech could potentially make the MacBook Pro thinner. The hybrid OLED design has allowed Apple to slim down the iPad Pro, and the same could happen for the MacBook Pro. However, some components, like the cooling system, may pose challenges in achieving a drastically thinner design. Still, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has hinted at a full redesign for the OLED MacBook Pro, possibly launching in 2026, which could include a noticeably slimmer profile.

MacBook Air Fans: OLED Delayed Again 😞

Sadly, the news isn’t as promising for MacBook Air users. The Elec’s report confirms that Apple has delayed the OLED MacBook Air’s launch from 2027 to 2029. While the OLED upgrade remains far off, there’s a silver lining: Apple plans to release a MacBook Air with an upgraded LCD display in 2027. This display is expected to deliver better performance, power efficiency, and image quality—leading to longer battery life and more consistent brightness. However, this still leaves the OLED upgrade for the MacBook Air a long way off.

For many, this delay is disappointing. Apple’s competitors already offer thin laptops with OLED displays, making the wait for Apple’s OLED MacBook Air feel even longer. While Apple’s improvements to the LCD panel are a step forward, they won’t replace the excitement of OLED—especially for those eagerly awaiting the MacBook Air’s next major leap.

The Verdict: A Long Wait for OLED MacBook Air Users

While 2026 could be the year of an exciting OLED MacBook Pro upgrade, MacBook Air fans will have to wait until at least 2029 for their OLED dream. Though the updated LCD display in 2027 will improve the overall MacBook Air experience, it’s a tough pill to swallow for those who have been eagerly waiting for OLED tech.
